The pandemic is going to change more than the distance between students in yoga classes-it’s also going to space out studio classes to give staff time to disinfect the room. Yoga class schedules will shrink to give staff time to disinfect studios. “We will have to adapt to this new way of being and be hopeful that our gathered energy will fill any physical gaps between us.” Fewer yoga classes on the schedule “Since I do most of my teaching at events, festivals and workshops, I will be limiting the capacity by 50% to allow for people to have enough space that they feel safe enough to sweat and breathe without feeling the stress of getting someone else’s germs,” said Los Angeles-based Yoga teacher Rosie Acosta, host of the podcast Radically Loved. The capacity limitations may also extend to special events and outdoor yoga classes, as well. “Instead, we'll use the smaller studio for one-on-one and small group private sessions, which will allow for appropriate social distancing,” said Maiorca, who is also the board chair of Yoga Alliance. Kerry Maiorca, owner of Bloom Yoga Studio in Chicago, expects to reduce capacity by almost half in her larger studio and stop offering group classes in her smaller space.
